Fun, Food, Folklore!
On day 2, the class got to go on a culinary adventure led by Chef Michael from the New Orleans School of Cooking! Before the real cooking began, the class got to practice cracking eggs using one hand. Later, the group showed off their cooking skills (in my case, picking up some cooking skills) by cooking a five-course meal (we ate well today). In the kitchen, we learned how stressful the restaurant industry is and most importantly we learned and tasted why Louisiana is considered a true melting pot. Through this 5-course meal cooking experience, we got to see how each culture that makes up NOLA has contributed to the flavor profile of a dish. Of course, this unique blending was made possible by having everyone (no matter their background) listed down as Catholic French. Through cooking Chef Michael was able to pass down some delicious recipes and share all the tea about New Orleans’s history.
