After only a couple days walking around the Crescent City, the glimpses I have into the workings of the city, and the lives of the people in it, I feel that I have some small understanding of what the city is at its core. I have never been partial to urban areas, but New Orleans, especially the French Quarter, is unlike any that I have experienced before. Vibrant, connected and diverse are words that the city brings to mind. It is an interesting blend of the past and the present. In light of the challenges that this area has faced in the past and the difficulties it is likely to encounter in the future, I can now empathize with the people that so desperately want to hold on to the unique and beautiful place that is New Orleans.
No words can describe how beautiful this city is. It has had such an impact on me and I have only had a few days to explore. The architecture is phenomenal and has so much character. What a unique experience.
One of the best things to do in the French Quarter is listen to the diverse and talented street performances. My favorite so far is a duo comprised of an electric violin and guitar, Tanya and Dorise.
The Cabildo Museum was full of New Orleans history, including some musical ways to save space. This upright grand piano took up less horizontal space but took no tax on the tone of this grand instrument.
The New Orleans School of Cooking gave the group a valuable experience and some unforgettable cooking lessons. I’ve never been so proud of a home-cooked meal.
Truly inspiring performance, this little giant could sing like an angel and nearly brought me to tears during the ballads.
This morning Kevin, MJ and myself attempted to make a shrimp creole dish. Turned out to be very good. Had fun doing it at the same time.
Today I adventured to the cathedral-basilica of Saint Louis. This cathedral is the oldest active cathedral in the United States. It was pretty amazing!!!
